Applied Desensitizing Materials
Often times patients can have teeth that are very sensitive to hot or cold temperatures. This can be the result of gingival (gum) recession due to heavy tooth brushing or periodontal disease. During recession to root of the tooth can become exposed and small pores in the roots surface can transmit thermal energy to the interior of the tooth and result in pain. In dentistry we call this dentin hypersensitivity.
