Innovative bone grafting technique to reverse the effects of bone loss
Many patients who are good candidates for dental implants in Newburgh, IN, learn that they must undergo a bone graft before we can place dental implants. This is because dental implants need to be fused to a certain amount of bone in the jaw. If this is underdeveloped or missing, we must proceed with a bone grafting procedure and allow that to heal before dental implant placement. Dr. James Woodyard uses innovative technologies including the SonicWeld Rx® to ensure optimal results with all grafting and implant dentistry procedures.
Reasons to Undergo a Bone Graft
- Prepare the jaw bone for dental implants
- Ridge augmentation or preservation procedure
- Restore lost bone after gum disease
- Replace missing bone after an accident or injury
- Strengthen the jaw after bone loss with age
Bone Grafting with the SonicWeld Rx®
One of the innovative tools we use at our practice is the SonicWeld Rx®. It uses ultrasonic technology to weld to the bone without heat. This fixates a matrix that will support a bone graft without taking an uncomfortable graft from other sites in the jaw. This allows us to perform horizontal and vertical bone augmentation procedures with a high degree of precision and creates a very stable structure for the restoration process.
Undergoing a Bone Graft
Dr. James Woodyard typically performs this procedure under local or IV sedation to ensure patient comfort. The grafting material is sourced from donor bone graft material. Once the grafted tissue is fully integrated into existing jaw bone, we can proceed with dental implant placement or other procedures.
